Animal and Plant Diversity

The Amazon rainforest is home to an astonishing diversity of animal and plant life. It is estimated that approximately 1,294 species of birds, 378 species of reptiles, 427 species of amphibians, and 3,000 species of fish inhabit the Amazon. Many of these animals are highly skilled predators.

One of the most iconic animals of the Amazon is the pink dolphin, also known as the boto. This rare species of dolphin lives in the waters of the Amazon River and is considered one of the most endangered dolphins in the world.

Another fascinating animal found in the Amazon rainforest is the sloth. These slow-moving mammals live in trees and are often spotted hanging upside down from branches.
