Lima
Lima, the capital of Peru, is a coastal city along the Pacific Ocean and one of the largest capital cities in South America. Founded by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, Lima is also known as “Ciudad de los Reyes” or “City of the Kings.” The name “Lima” originates from the Aymara language, where “Lima, Limak” means “yellow flower.” The city is traversed by the Rímac River, affectionately nicknamed the “Talkative River.”
Lima is renowned for its cultural heritage and architectural grandeur, which rivals that of Mexico City, making it a major destination in Latin America. Some of its most notable attractions include the Pacific Ocean beaches, Plaza de Armas, Government Palace, San Francisco Church, Parque Del Amor (Love Park), the Larco Museum, the Archaeological Site, Larcomar Shopping Center, and the scenic Malecón de Miraflores promenade.
