Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, is located approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Cusco. Perched at an altitude of 2,350 meters above sea level, it is a testament to the architectural brilliance of the Inca Empire.
Constructed around 1450 during the height of the Inca civilization, Machu Picchu is considered one of the most significant archaeological sites in South America and a top tourist destination in Peru. Over time, dense forests concealed this ancient city, preserving it as a hidden treasure known only to a few.
Built without the use of mortar, metal tools, or wheels, the city showcases extraordinary engineering. However, its purpose and eventual abandonment remain topics of ongoing research and debate among scholars.
